Learning Reflection

Throughout the learning in this class, I have new knowledge and many observations about Discourse Approach in Reading. The knowledge that my teacher taught me since the first period until the last class. It is useful and can be used in everyday life. I think the knowledge that the teacher teach throughout this term. It is very useful in the future to government holds exams.

Although all this time, I rarely have studied much. So it make you angry and you have to scold and complain me. but I've never angry with you. Because I know that You hope for good with me. Finally, I don’t know what to say more. Besides "thank you"  Thank you for your guidance and support. I have so much fun learning with you. Thank you for helping me improve. I’m grateful for everything you’ve taught me. You’re the best teacher ever!

     

Problem and Solution continued

Today we learn Problem and Solution continued from last week. Teacher start the class, she check student’s homework. Then she start explain the text about Amnesia and call some of student to write title, main idea, and graphic organizer on whiteboard in front of the class. And then, she give us the corrective feedback. Next, she call some student to write title, main idea, and graphic organizer of Road accident text on whiteboard in front of the class next she give us the corrective feedback. Next, she call some student to write title, main idea, and graphic organizer of Bike lanes now for a better future text on whiteboard in front of the class next she give us the corrective feedback. Next, she give us the corrective feedback of exercise 2. Finally, she give us to present cooking video clip of each couple.

For today, I’m very excited to present cooking video clip but I think that I do my best.

                       

Problem and Solution

Today we learn about Problem and Solution lesson. First, teacher give us handouts and give us to read the text about teen pregnancy. After we read already, she tell about the signal word which may indicate that information in passage is ordered in the problem and solution pattern of organization : propose, solution, approach, issue, problem, problematic, remedy, prevention, prevent, solve, handle, and fix. Next, she tell about problem marker and solution marker. After that, she give us to read the text and circle the problem, marker and highlight the solution markers. Then write either problem or solution in the margin next to the relevant information. Next, teacher give us to read the text about machine gun. Then write the title, and the sentence explaining the main idea of the text. Then create a problem and solution graphic organizer. Finally, before we had quiz. Teacher assign us to do exercise that left out. Next week she will give us the corrective feedback.

For today, my problem is create the problem and solution of the text and I very nervous about quiz II.

                        

Exemplification

Today we learn about Exemplification. First, teacher give handout to us, and explain that what is Exemplification? And explain the purpose of this kind. Next, teacher explain about commonly used abbreviation and transitions in exemplification text. Next, teacher give us to read the text about Colllege Student’s Pressures, after we read already she let us to do exercise, the teacher tell us to highlight the Exemplification marker, then she give us the corrective feedback and explain the exercise. Next, teacher let us to read Fun things to do in Great Falls and match the place with the activities. Next, she give us to read text 3 and answer the question. And finally, she let us read What is Language? and complete the sentences, give us highlight the Exemplification marker.

For today, I think this lesson is difficult because the text of this lesson is so long.

                          

Definition & Classification

Today we will learn about Definition & Classification lesson. Teacher start the class by  give handout to us, and explain example and explanations. Next, she tell explain bout Definition & Classification marker. After that, teacher give us try to do skill practice 1, then she give us the corrective feedback and explain each item. Next, she explain about exercise skill practice 2 that how to do this exercise and then let us to do the exercise, and she give us the corrective feedback and explain each item. Next, teacher teach us about classification text. The text is about What is Anthropology? After we read the text already, teacher let us to complete the diagram from the text. And finally, teacher give us to read the last text and do exercise.

For today, my problem is separate definition text and classification text because of  both texts are very similar.

          

Cause and Effect

Today we will learn the new lesson that is Cause and Effect. The teacher start the class by give handout to us, and explain about this lesson, and teacher let us try to read the text and complete the diagram. The exercise that teacher give us to do is find what is cause? Next, teacher explain about cause and effect marker. After that, she give us try to do skill practice 1, then she give us the corrective feedback and explain about the exercise more. Next, she explain the exercise 2 is about complete the cause and effect diagram and write the correct letter in each box, then teacher let us try to do exercise, and when we did exercise already, she give us the corrective feedback and explain each item. And the last text, she give us read the text and answer the question from text, after we did already she give us to highlight cause and effect marker in the text. And finally, she give us the corrective feedback.

For today, my gang come to study just 4 people due to yesterday there was Bye Nior  party at university, make this day my friend come to study less. I feel lonely. But that's not a problem for me. The problem for me today is I still can not remember cause and effect marker.

                                

Comparison and contrast

Today we learn comparison and contrast continued from last week. The teacher start the class by check student’s homework before start the new text, and she give us the corrective feedback and explain text 2. Next, teacher give us to read Men and Women: Do they speak Language? and answer the question from the text . After us did exercise already, she explain about the text and give us the corrective feedback.

I agree with Tannen because men and women use different language such as women will speak and listen in a language that can establish a relationship and intimately familiar while men will talk and listen with a language that indicates the status, power, and rely on themselves.

I think that Thai men and women are very  different. They have ways of expression are different. And a way how to express that feel different.

                         

Procedure continued & Comparison and contrast

Today we learn Procedure lesson continued from last week. The teacher start the class by give us to read the text and do exercise, the text is about user instruction. After we did exercise finish, she explain about the text and give us the corrective feedback. After we learn Procedure lesson already, the teacher start new lesson by open the picture of fruit between apple and orang on the power point, and then she ask us that How they are different? Next, she give us handout and give us read the text and complete the diagram. And finally, she give us the corrective feedback and assign us to read the text 2 and do exercise.

For today, I think I like the new lessons, because I like to look at the differences.

                   

Procedure

Today we will learn the new lesson that is Procedure. The teacher start the class by show the picture of food on the power point and ask us that Have you ever cooked? and How to cook? Next, she give us to discuss with friend that Have you ever cooked? After that, she open the clip video from the internet to us. The video is about how to cook the food. Next, she give us to write the word that we can hear in the video. After we write it finished, she open English sub to us to watch the word that we write yes or no. Next, she give the handout to us and explain about the lesson. And then, she give us to read How to make Recipe for Banana Cake. Then give us to match each sentence with the correct picture. And finally before we quiz, teacher give us to read How to make Chicken Soup.

For today, the new lesson doesn’t have any problem, but the problem is Q U I Z. I very nervous. 

                         

Descriptive continued

Today we learn Descriptive lesson continued from last week, but last week we descriptive about an animal. Today we will descriptive about places. Start with text 2 this place in the text is Budapest. The teacher give us to read and do exercise and then, she give us the corrective feedback. Then, she explain about this text and give us find the adjective in the text. The second place that we descriptive is Prague. The teacher explain the text and give us to do exercise. And the final that we descriptive is about person. She give us to read the text and do exercise.

For today, I think I like this lesson very much because the texts are easy to read and easy to understand. I love it!

Narrative continued & Descriptive

Today we learn narrative lesson continues from yesterday that I didn’t to go to study. Today the teacher start the class from call some friend to summary The Secret by Tom Winton for the student that didn’t come to study yesterday and then, give us make group 3-4 people to tell the meaning of symbol from the The Secret. After that, the teacher summary and explain about the story again and it make me clear more. Next, she start the new lesson by give us to watch the power point, on the power point it has an animal picture, she give us to brain storm and discuss about the animal is look like? And teacher describe intro about the new lesson. Certainly the new lesson that we will learn is Descriptive. Next, she give the handout to us and give us to read text 1 it about Komodo Dragon. After we read the text, teacher give the student draw mind mapping about Komodo Dragon, answer the question from the text, and math each word with the correct meaning.

For today, I’m very nervous when start the class because yesterday I didn’t come to study. And today, teacher give us to tell the meaning of symbol from The Secret by Tom. Which I don’t know the meaning of those if my friend didn’t come to summary in front of the class.

Narrative continued

Today is Sunday. That is holiday but I have to go to the university because teacher appointment the student to make up class at 1.00 p.m. Due to we have a holiday on Monday 13 February. But I does not go to study because of I have appointment with the doctor at Siriraj Hospital. Although I did not go to study, but I asked my friend that what’s the teacher teach today? She told me that she gave them to make group 3-4 people to read the text until the end and gave the each group summary the text. And gave them to do exercise in handout. I felt very sorry that I did not to go to study.

Recount continued & Narrative

Today we start the lesson continue from last week by teacher give us the corrective feedback of the homework last week. After the teacher give us the corrective feedback of the homework already, she give us try to read next text is about five Vietnamese nationals were arrested, and give us to answer the questions from the text. After we do exercise finish the teacher give us the corrective feedback. Next, the teacher give us to make group 3-4 people then, read text “ Investigation report” and help to summarize the text and answer the questions from the text. After we learn recount lesson finish, the teacher speak intro the next lesson that is “ Narrative”. Then, teacher ask us about our experience in childhood and  give us handouts. Next, she give us to do exercise and ask us think about child and how we felt when we was a child then answer questions on circle and draw it. Finally for today, she give us to read the text 2 paragraphs and find the main idea of the text.

For today, I think the new lesson is difficult because it have hard vocabulary and sometime I can’t translate it.

Recount

Today we learn about kind of the recount. Teacher starts lecturing about the recount each category. Next, teacher explain an example text “ Furious Pace in Hockey Final ” and explain about language features. After finish the text, teacher give us try to find which is orientation and which is event of  “ Our trip to the blue Mountain ” text. Next, teacher give us try to read the text about “ My grandpa’s Funeral in Toraja ” and find the orientation and reorientation. After that, answer the questions .
        

 For today, I got the problem that is the weather was hot due to the air condition is broke. It makes me not concentrate in lesson.

Course Introduction

Today is the first day of semester 2. Back to school the first day we began studying with Professor Usa Noytim. The original teacher is more new  course class with her. Then the teacher explains the details about A Discourse Approach in Reading class. Next, the teacher give the students exchange ideas with friends that last semester break what did you do? And then, the students came out to speak in front of the class.

Then the teacher distributed the handouts and let us do the exercises in sheet. And then, the teacher give the corrective feedback to us.

For this term, I think the article that the teacher give us to read and do exercise is difficult because I have to separate the types of articles. The problem is I classify article definitions and articles classified not out. Because it have similarities.

Last semester break, my family and I went to Sky Hill Camping, Suan Phung, Ratchaburi to New Year Countdown. This is the first time I've been sleeping tent. The next morning, my family and I went to visit the Alpaca hill. I enjoyed doing a lot of activities there such as feeding the alpaca, sightseeing around the area, and adventure Treasure of the Inca. I feel very happy to spend time with my family.

Learning Reflection

Throughout the learning in this class, I have new knowledge and many observations about the reading strategies of English. The knowledge that my teacher taught me since the first period until the last class. It is useful and can be used in everyday life.

My feelings for this course is at first I thought you must be very fierce, and must be very bored. But when I really learn I feel like how to teach of her. I like to work, discuss and exchange ideas with friends. I'm having fun and enjoy activities in the classroom. It was wonderful. See you next semester my teacher.

Classic Ann Landers

On Monday, November 14, we learned about "Classic Ann Landers" The teacher gave us read the letter of Ann Landers to advice to the problem others. After reading the passages, then do exercises.

I think, vocabulary and exercises in this lesson is easy.

I don't think this lesson is difficult.

I used scanning skill in this lesson.

I think this lesson is very interesting. I enjoy reading the passage. And here is another lesson I learn and enjoy it.

Paragraph Reading Strategies "Books and Novels"

On Monday, November 7, Today's lesson is Paragraph Reading Strategies. The teacher asked us “How to choose a book for read?”  And let us try to do the exercises before she taught. While we were doing the exercises, she was told about the learning experience in her childhood. And then gave the corrective feedback when we all finished and my answer was correct. Then she let us summarize the point of each paragraph and write a summary on the board in front of class.

I think that finding the answers of the exercises in this chapter is easy for me.

I think that summarizes the gist of the book is difficult for me, because there is a lot I don't know words.

I used scanning skill in this passage.

I think the passage of this lesson is hard, but I’ll do my best.

Read faster

On Monday, October 31, Today's lesson is Read faster starting with question “How do we improve that our speaking, listening, and writing skills?” The students to exchange ideas with friends. After the teacher asked the students "what are obstacles to faster reading?" Afterward, the teacher told us that read the text and think the topic and summarize the passage. Finally, we did exercise and the teacher gave the corrective feedback when we all finished and my answer was correct.

I think Read faster it not easy for me at all.

Reading Read faster is difficult for me the most because I'm ADHD.

I used scanning and skimming skills in this lesson.

I think reading scanning, skimming, predicting, and guessing word to help me read the passage.

Extensive reading

On Monday, October 17, Today's lesson is Extensive reading. The teacher began the lesson with the question Do you often read in English for your private study? Teacher let us write their own answers, then share ideas with friends. Then the teacher let us find the words about research. And the teacher let us read the text in the sheet and summarize the main point of each paragraph.

I think the vocabulary in this chapter is easy. Because I can understand the gist in each paragraph.

I don't think this lesson is difficult because the vocabulary in the education section I've ever read.

I used predicting and guessing word skills in this passage.

I think Extensive reading is reading skill to improved reading English better.
